Dear Donald,
Your administration released a partial outline to your new budget plan today. Unsurprisingly it will be proposing a lot of cuts to government programs while increasing on the military and border security. The budget proposes cutting the Environmental Protection Agency by 31 percent, the State Department by 28 percent and Health and Human Services by 17.9 percent. Additionally it would cut funding to several smaller government agencies like the Legal Services Corporation, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the National Endowment for the Humanities and the National Endowment for the Arts completely.
I think the likelihood of this budget actually passing Congress in its current state is pretty slim, but nonetheless, it’s not very settling to hear that this is your starting point.
You once again are acting contradictory to your election promises. You ran on a platform of creating good jobs for Americans, but this budget would actually take resources away from many people and do just the opposite. It seems you are willing to risk the backlash from the very people you rallied to support you.
It’s common knowledge that you are not winning any popularity contests among democrats, but it’s interesting to see that the Republican Party is also starting to fall divided on their support for you as well.
I am eager to see how Congress will respond. There are a lot of people who will lose so much with this plan as is, and I’m hoping Congress will fight back hard to make this pill a little easier to swallow.
Sincerely,
A Solicitous Citizen
